Neon: The Charged Line

In 2017, the Grundy Art Gallery delivered a major new exhibition. Synthesising the work of some of the world’s best known artists; the exhibition was a celebration of all things neon for Blackpool Illuminations and LightPool during 2016.

This medium has been utilised in Blackpool for decades. Blackpool has a history of displaying this enchanting and enduring form of lighting. Simply put, neon is designed to be seen rather than just illuminate.

The exhibition at the Grundy Art Gallery allowed visitors to see some of the different ways in which artists have used neon as a form of line drawing. Whether in text, or integrated into sculpture or installation, this magical exhibition will illuminated something within everyone who visited.
